Drinking Hot Chocolate

I was sitting in Adelle’s Coffeehouse in downtown Dover, NH, watching this man with his cup of hot chocolate. The hot chocolate at Adelle’s is truly a work of art, especially with their signature homemade whipped cream. As he drank his hot chocolate, he seemed so content and deeply lost in thought.

To Farmers Market With Camera in Hand

The farmers markets at Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsford, NH, are a big deal where I live, especially in the middle of winter. The temperature outside was just above freezing, but inside it was warm and friendly. I’ve always loved taking my camera to the markets. There is just something so rustic and pure about the way the venders set up their wares. This trip I got to try out my new camera, an Olympus OM-D with the new wide-angle 17mm, f1.8 lens. I had finally traded in my heavy professional Nikon gear for this light-weight model. I had the best time walking around with this little camera and when I was done, I just slipped it back in my bag. All these shots were shot manually in available light.

Happy New Year

The first morning of the New Year brought a jewel-like frost to the pine trees. As the early morning sun set off a sparkling display of light, I couldn't help but to rejoice in the beauty of this world. Captured with a Nikon D200 with a Nikkor Micro 105 mm lens at f/4.5, shutter speed 1/50.

Snow Bird

Snow was falling one morning while I was sitting at my computer. I happened to glance out the window and saw this little bird just sitting on the branch of a very large weeping willow tree that resides in my backyard. The bird was just sitting there while large fluffy flakes of snow fell to the ground. I quickly grabbed my camera and ran outside. I got a few shots off before the bird flew away.

The snow continued to fall throughout the day, blanketing my little corner of New England. I sat warm and comfortable, writing in the backroom with my two dogs at my feet. I felt very thankful to be alive, safe and warm on this winter day. Everytime I look at this photograph I’m in awe of the beauty of nature and the gift of life.

This photograph was captured with a Nikon D300 and a 70-200mm Nikkor lens.
